This Tutsi jug was carved by the Hima society in Uganda, with the Tutsi also present in neighboring countries like Rwanda, Burundi, and the Congo. Traditionally, these jugs were used to store milk or other liquids, with the shape designed for practicality, allowing for easy pouring.

The piece features a tall, flared body with horizontal groovesand a spiral-patterned lid. Some jugs have metal reinforcements to seal cracks and prevent leaks, enhancing their durability over time. The Tutsi, known for their pastoralist traditions, also excel in pottery, creating functional and ceremonial pieces that reflect their heritage.

These jugs can be displayed individually or grouped together on a coffee table or shelf, adding a unique touch to any space. They are also ideal for holding dried flowers, combining beauty and functionality.
